[tape recorder sounds play] This, this, this is a TAPEDECK Podcast.

[FILM HAGS theme song plays alone, fades out]

BOOM What's up everybody? This is FILM HAGS, a podcast where your four favorite hags watch movies and grew up some opinions and hot takes. I'm Boom and I'm here with Maggie, Sophie and Mel. How's it going hags?

SOPH Good! How are you?

MEL Good!

MAGGIE Great!

BOOM Yeah, I'm good!

SOPH Week number two!

BOOM It is, we did it. We made it through our first episode. And now it is episode number two. We've been through power outages, Hunger Games drama, just a whole lot of stuff. Okay?

SOPH Yeah, been through a lot.

BOOM But we have persevered. And that is what is important. So later in this episode, we will be talking about Jonathan Larson's Rent, the film from 2005, directed by Chris Columbus. How are you guys feeling about that? That's my pick! So.

SOPH I'm feeling... I'm feeling... I'm feeling good. [Soph & Mel laugh]

BOOM Yeah, I believe you.

MAGGIE I don't.

MEL Hundo.

MAGGIE I feel I'm so excited because I love rent. So much. But I have to say I was anticipating more Big Fat Greek Wedding hate and no Rent hate at all. And kind of the opposite happened where there was no Big Fat Greek Wedding hate and so much Rent hate.

SOPH What do you mean there's been so much Rent hate? From who?

MAGGIE Sophie. Where ya been?

BOOM Yeah, where ya been, girl? Thank you.

MAGGIE It's all around us!

BOOM Some of it fueled by Sophie Shin herself!

SOPH You don't know that. [Mel & Maggie laugh]

BOOM Listen, I know everything. Okay? I'm an all seeing hag.

SOPH Wait, Maggie, I didn't know. I mean, we'll get into this. I didn't know you loved rent that much.

MAGGIE We will get into this. [Maggie & Mel laugh] So I'll just say, I know it's Jess's pick. I've never seen the stage play. So I know I'm a phony fan.

BOOM No.

MAGGIE And I watched the show,  the movie a lot as when I was younger. I probably haven't seen it since I was in high school. So this was like, nice to revisit. But definitely, I wish this wasn't true. But I'm very influenced by other people's opinions. And I wish I just watched it like a week ago. [Soph laughs] Because I wouldn't have anyone's opinions. In my mind. I would just be like, oh, I'm revisiting this movie I love instead of like, oh, I'm revisiting this movie that I'm not supposed to like.

BOOM Yeah, it's a whole different game now. Because we're doing this podcast. So when we like pick things, I also went through a similar thing. It's like you're opening it up to everybody.

SOPH No one's telling you not to like it, though.

BOOM No, nobody's saying not to like it. It's just kind of like when you live in a happy Rent bubble where like, everything is Rent—

MAGGIE And no one's paying it. And yeah.

BOOM Anyways, we're gonna get in to Rent later in the show. We've been through a lot in the past month. The past week. It's been a minute, it's been 525,600 minutes to be exactly. [Mel & Maggie laugh]

MEL Feels like it.

BOOM At least it feels like it exactly. So let's get into our peak of the week, which is something we're gonna do at the top of each show, just to kind of look back on our week and reflect. And just like, talk about a highlight. It could be anything from like something delicious you ate, or something you accomplished. Maybe a film you watched or TV show, a song you found. Or maybe you like, kicked a cat collar in the pants. [Soph laughs] And you just want to fucking talk about it.

SOPH Sorry, I thought you were gonna stop—

MAGGIE Kicked a cat.

SOPH Stop a cat. I'm like, Jesus Christ.

JESS If anybody's out here kicking cats, you call me and I'll kick them in the pants. [Soph laughs]

MEL Right in the crotch marbles. [Boom & Maggie laugh]

SOPH Yeah, let's let's start our shows off on a positive note. I love it.

BOOM Absolutely. So Mel, we'll start with you. What was the peak of your week?

MEL Well, I don't know. I had, I had a couple. I was gonna talk about a movie that I watched with Chuck that was just like so fun, but it's sort of controversial, so I don't know if you guys watched it. Army of the Dead.

MAGGIE Army of the Dead?

BOOM Ohhh. Yes. This has been divisive.

SOPH Mel, it's not controversial. You're getting trolled.

MEL Yes it is! Have you seen people's reviews?

BOOM Well it's not that it's like particularly controversial. I just think that it's, it's been really divisive among critics and like fans, like, yeah, it's like the ratings are just all over the board. But like mel, what was your journey with it? Why did you love it?

MEL We just had like, so much fun watching it. Like, I haven't had that much fun watching a movie in a long time. And we were just like screaming and like laughing. Yeah. And it was super fun. But then I of course, I posted about it on Discord because I knew what I was doing to myself. [Mel & Boom laugh] And I got trolled really hard because people love to hate Zack Snyder, the director. And yeah, Chuck and I have been yelling about this for days, just like the two of us. [Mel laughs] Just yelling about how much we loved it.

MAGGIE So I haven't seen this, but I feel like I would like it. Yeah, and the main character is the same dude that plays Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. But to be honest, I actually can't take that actor seriously because I watched WrestleMania like three years ago. [Soph & Boom laugh] And he came from wrestling.

SOPH Yeah. So did Dwayne The Rock Johnson and he's like the best actor in the past decade!

MEL Sophie! What are you talking about?!

BOOM Can you take the Rock seriously?
